Terms of Use
Last updated: May 31, 2025
1. Introduction
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of AccessibilityScanner.org (the "Site"). By using this Site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, you must not use this Site.
These Terms should be read alongside our Privacy Policy at accessibilityscanner.org/privacy-policy.
2. About This Site
AccessibilityScanner.org is an independent informational resource. We provide:
- A free automated web accessibility scan, powered by an open-source third-party scanning engine
- Educational content about web accessibility standards, laws, and compliance
- Reviews and recommendations of third-party accessibility tools and services
We are not an accessibility software company, a law firm, or a compliance certification authority. Nothing on this Site constitutes legal advice.
3. The Accessibility Scanner
3.1 Open-Source Third-Party Engine
The scanning tool available on this Site is powered by an open-source third-party engine. We do not own, develop, or maintain the underlying scan technology. The engine is provided as-is under its respective open-source license.
3.2 Nature of Results
Scan results are automated and informational only. They are intended to help you identify common accessibility issues - they do not constitute:
- A professional accessibility audit
- A legal opinion
- A guarantee of compliance with WCAG, ADA, EAA, Section 508, AODA, or any other standard or law
- A complete assessment of your website's accessibility
Automated tools are estimated to detect approximately 30-40% of potential WCAG issues. Manual review by a qualified accessibility professional is required for a comprehensive assessment.
3.3 Authorized Use Only
You may only submit URLs for websites you own or have explicit authorization to test. You must not use the scanner to test websites without permission from their owner.
3.4 No Reliance
We are not liable for any decisions, actions, or inactions taken based on scan results. You should not rely on scan output as the sole basis for legal compliance, remediation planning, or responding to legal claims.
4. Lead Generation and Communications
If you submit your name and email address on this Site, you consent to receiving communications from us including tool recommendations, accessibility guides, and compliance updates. You may unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email we send, or by contacting us at info@accessibilityscanner.org.
We do not sell your contact information to third parties. Data is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy at accessibilityscanner.org/privacy-policy.
5. Affiliate Relationships and Commercial Disclosure
5.1 Affiliate Links
This Site contains affiliate links to third-party accessibility tools and services. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission from the vendor. This commission comes at no additional cost to you and does not affect the price you pay.
This disclosure also applies inline wherever affiliate links or tool recommendations appear on this Site. Near any such recommendation you will see a notice such as: "We may earn a commission if you purchase through links on this site. This does not affect our recommendations."
5.2 Editorial Independence
Affiliate relationships do not influence our editorial content. We do not rank or prioritize tools based on commission rates. Our recommendations reflect our independent assessment of each tool's value and compliance coverage.
5.3 No Endorsement of Third Parties
Links to third-party tools do not constitute endorsement of those companies, their products, or their business practices. We are not responsible for the quality, pricing, availability, support, or legal compliance of any third-party tool. Any purchase you make is a transaction solely between you and the vendor.
5.4 Regulatory Compliance
This disclosure is made in compliance with the US Federal Trade Commission's guidelines on endorsements and testimonials (16 CFR Part 255), as well as equivalent disclosure requirements in the EU and other applicable jurisdictions.
